Football betting rules at Dash Bet
These Dash Bet football betting rules explain how common football markets are settled, including match result, full time, extra time, penalty shootouts, live events, postponed fixtures and official result corrections. They are intended to help players understand football betting rules in Ethiopia before placing a bet.
Always check the market name, the period of play shown in the bet slip, the event status and any special conditions before confirming a wager. Most markets refer to 90 minutes, but some are based on qualification, an outright winner or another clearly stated outcome. If a specific market condition differs from this general guide, the terms displayed for that market and the applicable Terms and Conditions take priority.
Standard settlement time: 90 minutes
For most football markets, football bet settlement is based on 90 minutes of play plus the referee’s added time, also called stoppage time. Added time is part of the normal match period. It is not the same as extra time, which consists of additional periods played after a knockout match is level at the end of normal time.
This is the usual basis for 90 minutes football betting:
- Match Result / 1X2: the home win, draw or away win after normal time;
- Double Chance: the selected result combination after normal time;
- Total Goals: goals scored during normal time and stoppage time;
- Handicap: the adjusted score at the end of the stated period;
- Both Teams to Score: whether each team scores during the stated normal-time period.
Unless the market says otherwise, goals scored in extra time or in a penalty shootout do not change these outcomes. For example, a 1X2 selection on Team A normally refers to the score after 90 minutes and added time, not to the team that eventually wins the tie.
When extra time counts
Extra time football betting requires careful attention to the market wording. Extra time is included only when the market or its rules expressly refer to it. Examples can include “including extra time”, “to qualify”, “winner of tie”, “team to lift the trophy” and “outright winner”. These descriptions should not be treated as interchangeable with an ordinary Match Result market.
A selection on “Team A to qualify” may be settled in favour of Team A if it wins in extra time or after a penalty shootout, provided the relevant market includes those outcomes. By contrast, a 1X2 selection on Team A may lose when the teams are level after normal time, even if Team A later wins the tie. Check the exact market description before placing a bet.
How penalties are settled
The phrase “penalties” can describe two different events. A penalty kick awarded and taken during normal time or extra time is a match event. It can contribute to a goals market when that market covers the period in which it occurs. A penalty shootout takes place after extra time to decide which team progresses or wins a competition.
Under typical football betting settlement rules, a shootout is not included in a 90-minute total or Match Result market unless the displayed conditions specifically include it. Shootout kicks are also usually excluded from Total Goals. They may, however, determine a “to qualify”, “winner of tie”, trophy or outright market when the rules provide for that outcome. These penalty shootout betting rules should be checked alongside the market name rather than inferred from the final competition result.
Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches
A cancelled football match bet and postponed football match betting may be treated differently depending on the event rules, competition, rescheduling period and whether the match has started. Dash Bet should settle these situations according to its published rules and the relevant Terms and Conditions; the general information below is not a replacement for those conditions.
- If a fixture is cancelled before kick-off, the affected bet may be declared void and the stake refunded unless a specific rule provides another settlement.
- If a match is postponed before it starts, the bet may remain open if the fixture is played within the period stated in the rules. Otherwise, it may become void.
- If a match begins and is then abandoned, settlement may depend on whether the selected outcome was already unconditionally determined before the interruption.
- If a match is completed later, the applicable rule may require the original event to be finished within a stated time or competition round.
- If an official result is changed after the final whistle, Dash Bet may review the settlement in line with its Terms and Conditions and the official event data.
- If the event contains an incorrect date, team, venue or market description, the bet may be cancelled or voided where the error materially affects the wager.
Do not assume that every interrupted event produces the same result. A cancelled bet, rejected bet and void bet can have different meanings in the account history, so review the settlement message and contact support if the reason is unclear.
Live football betting settlement
Live football betting rules apply while a match is in progress. Prices and market availability can change quickly because the score, time, possession and match incidents are developing continuously. A live selection may be accepted after a short delay, rejected while the market is suspended or confirmed at a different price from the one first displayed.
A goal, red card, VAR review, penalty, injury or dangerous attack can cause a market suspension. The system may wait for official confirmation before accepting or settling the selection. A bet sent during a material event may therefore be pending, accepted using updated odds or rejected. Visit Dash Bet live for the available live betting section, and read the bet slip carefully before confirmation.
Odds changes and bet confirmation
A football odds change before acceptance does not mean that the original price has been secured. The odds shown in the bet slip become final only when the bet is confirmed by the system. If the price changes, you may be shown the new odds for approval, or the selection may be rejected.
Check the stake, possible return, market period and updated odds before pressing the confirmation button. This is particularly important in live football, where an event can change between selecting a market and submitting the bet. An accepted bet is governed by the confirmation recorded in the account and by the applicable market rules; an unaccepted selection is not a settled wager.
VAR, official data and result corrections
Video Assistant Referee decisions can affect whether a goal stands, whether a penalty is awarded, or whether a red card is issued. During a review, Dash Bet may suspend the relevant market until reliable official information is available. The final settlement may use the confirmed match record rather than an initial display or provisional commentary.
Official data can also correct a scorer, card, corner or final result after the event. Where a result is amended after settlement, Dash Bet will apply its own published policy and Terms and Conditions. Read the Terms and Conditions before betting if you need to understand how corrections, data errors and disputed events are handled. For regulatory information, see License & Regulation.
Player, cards and corners markets
Player, cards and corners markets can use definitions that differ from standard match markets. A card may count only when shown to an eligible player on the field, or the market may specify a different treatment for substitutes, coaches or staff. Corners are normally based on official corners awarded and taken, but the precise definition must be checked in the market rules.
A player selection may be void if the player does not take part, although this depends on the applicable Dash Bet rule and the market type. An own goal is generally not credited as a goal by that player for player-goals purposes unless the specific rules state otherwise. For cards, corners, player markets and related statistics, check the specific market rules before placing a bet rather than relying on a general assumption.
Examples of football bet settlement
Scenario: The score is 1–1 after 90 minutes. Team A wins 2–1 in extra time.
Settlement: A 1X2 bet on Team A normally loses because the market was based on normal time. A market marked as including extra time may settle differently.
Scenario: Team C and Team D finish 0–0 after extra time. Team D wins the shootout.
Settlement: An Over 0.5 Total Goals selection for 90 minutes normally loses. The shootout kicks do not usually count as match goals for that market.
Scenario: A scheduled fixture is cancelled before kick-off and no special continuation rule applies.
Settlement: The affected selection may be declared void with a refund of the stake, subject to the published rules.
Scenario: A live bet is submitted while VAR is reviewing a possible penalty.
Settlement: The market may remain pending, be accepted at updated odds or be rejected if the event was suspended before acceptance.
Scenario: Team B is selected in a “To Qualify” market and wins after extra time and penalties.
Settlement: The selection may win when the market includes both extra time and a shootout.
Scenario: A match is abandoned after a team has already reached a condition in a market that cannot be changed by later play.
Settlement: That market may be settled under the relevant rule, while other unsettled markets may be void or remain open.
Responsible football betting
Football betting should be treated as entertainment, not as a way to earn money or recover losses. Set a budget before playing, use available limits, take breaks and never chase a previous result. If betting stops feeling controlled, consider a pause or self-exclusion and seek support through the Responsible Gaming page.
Dash Bet services are for adults who meet the applicable age requirements. Read the Age Restriction Policy and do not allow anyone under the permitted age to use your account or place bets.
